a while back, someone (dbrashear i believe) was encouraged to develop an interface board for this gps unit. was wondering if this ever materialized... and if not, does anyone want to build me one for a fee? i'd really like to start using a gps in the car.

My opinion:

If you want to use GPSapp, then just buy a proper 12v GPS receiver that you can plug into the serial port. If you've got one that requires a special interface board before it can be plugged in, you've simply got the wrong one.

Yeah, I dropped it due to time. If you do it, I won't object, I don't know when I'll have time to deal.

If you just need to do 5v serial to 12v serial conversion then you can use this little module. You still have to do a little legwork but it just involves connecting the right cable on the module to the right place on the GPS board, you'll also need a 7805 for a power source. You can do it almost without soldering if you don't mind splicing wire.
