Hi,

Tried updating my Empeg (Mk2) player today to the latest HiJack Kernel (v335.hijack.mk2.zImage) using LogoEdit (for Windows) and I continue to get this error:

Error number 53 occurred in the Kernel routine

What does this mean, and what could be wrong?

Thanks,
Forrest

Error 53 is FILE NOT FOUND.

The last time someone reported this, it was because they had not unzipped all of the files out of my ZIP file that I supply for logoedit. You have to unzip all of the files to the same location.

Thanks, that was the problem... for some reason, the other items got deleted accidentally.

The logoeditor no longer works for me to update the kernal. In the past, I never had to physically reboot the player, it would do so itself. Now it reboots the player, but doesn't seem to know (it just hangs there, asking me to pull the cord). So, pulling the power cord and plugging it back in still doesn't work. Getting, "Error status in readbyte 16".

My player takes mega long to boot/reboot due to database size, could that be a factor? I can't hook up Hyperterminal at the same time, but lately I've been getting memory errors (but oddly, once I updated to the HiJack that shows error messages, I no longer saw the messages via serial or on the screen).

Updating via Jemplode works fine.

Error status in readbyte 16 indicates serial port trouble.

In the past we solved some of those errors by changing some of the timings in the upload routine. Is there a chance that you're using an old version of logoedit, or perhaps an old version of upload.exe from an old package?

It's been mentioned in the past but I had forgotten about it earlier this week. And I dont' recall seeing the readbyte 16 message, so this may be useless to you. But you can't do a serial port kernel upgrade when the player is in a Mlord dock. It will sit exactly at the point you're describing and do nothing.

Yeah, what he said. Are you using an Mlord dock?

For what it's worth, you can work around it by sticking an unwired 2.5mm jack into the player before inserting it into the dock. Or, you can AC Plug hack the dock, that's what I did with my MLord dock.
