...regarding the status of further empeg 2.0 software bug fixing.
Especially all the issues regarding RDS, respectively the tuner part in general.
For those who have missed the threads in question, here's the lineup:
RDS-AF does only work when tuned manually to a frequency (as opposed to being on a frequency after you switch to tuner mode, or power-on the unit, or select a preset)
RDS-AF cannot be disabled
RDS-AF disregards the current frequency when checking the AF list
FM seek has disappeared
maybe some more, attach them here...
I don't know about you dudes in the states, but here in good old europe where RDS is actually used those are quite serious.
And as said before, there are several tuner module owners here who would willingly sign a NDA to get daily builds of the empeg software for tuner testing (after someone pointed out that the empeg guys don't have a single tuner module left for testing purposes...).
So here's the question:
Has any work been done on this since the buyout???
bye,
[L]

There is no on going work on 2.0. Final pretty much means final.
3.0 will inherit most of these tuner bugs and we'll address them there. Right now we don't have time to do much tuner work, as our 3.0 codebase product doesn't have a tuner, and we're working around the clock to bring nine new Rio products to market within the next couple of months.

My guess is that we will get 3.0beta rather than a fix on 2.0final. WHich does not answer your question, of course. I think, however, that most bugs will be fixed in next release, regardless how they call it. As is, v.2.00 is virtuallly unusable here in EU, unless you give up the radio mode completely...

I still don't know what happened with the tuner. Toby put in the RDS fixes for 2.0, tested them, and still claims it works fine for him. There's something wierd going on.

I am not sure if it has already been asked, but is it possible that fixes were not included in the public release available for download, fore some reason? I know, almost impossible, but you never can tell. I, at least, am capable of much much worse mistakes...

Nine??? Hm!!! I know that a few of them have been mentioned on the board, but it sounds like there are more products brewing. Any hints???

There's a button mapping translation to "fix" the tuner "seek" functions -- tfabris discovered that the Kenwood remote codes for "seek" still work, so we just map those using Hijack to the usual tuner button presses. See thread elsewhere.
As for the AF problems, would it pacify everyone enough for me to simply disable AF completely inside Hijack (as an option, of course). I believe this is possible and simple enough to do, by just blocking certain tuner messages.

If you would be able to disable AF Mark, I'd be most grateful. AF is on the only station I listen to and it's really fscking me off.
Not that I'm deriding the beautiful work that was put into V2.0.

At risk of sounding contentious, in central Scotland I have very few issues with RDS - it works beautifully.
for me RDS-AF works when tuned manually to a frequency OR when on a frequency after you switch to tuner mode, or power-on the unit, or select a preset.
RDS-AF IS easily disabled, by deselecting AF. I know this works as I only use it in the morning and then disable it for the rest of the day.
I agree with this one - RDS-AF disregards the current frequency when checking the AF list - but it doesn't affect me
The button mapping works a treat for FM seek.
Wonder what is different with your config. Mine is fairly stock, plus Hijack 334 and emphatic

Mark, I'd be very very thankful if you could do that.
And, Muzza, I join you in saying I am not deriding the great work the empeg ppl are putting in the development of the empeg software. Sorry if I sounded sarcastic in any way. I am just an empeg-addicted like many others here waiting for a bug to be fixed
Back to the comments I am reading, it really seems the RDS is behaving differently in different Countries, don't you think? I have the impression some different "standard" is being used in different EU Countries. Just a guess...

You'd hope it would be sold for a very low price considering what a piece of shite this product is.

Didn't RDS work in 1.3? And better than now in 2.0b13? If so, you could always go back to one of those.

Say.. doesn't the existing AF On/Off player menu setting (Tuner -> Radio -> AF) already handle this? If you use it to set AF to Off, do the problems go away?
No need for Hijack to implement it if it's already there (but is it?)
Cheers

No, it doesn't, or at least not in my case. The AF function does not seem to go off no matter what I do with the function in the rds menu. That is one of the bug many have mentioned in the bbs, I think.

Okay, Hijack v337 will have a menu entry for "Tuner AF Blocking" -- toggle it to "Enabled" to try blocking the AF functionality. I think that this will also block ALL RDS functionality, but am just guessing at this point.
It can be changed on the fly, without rebooting, so you can turn it on/off for testing purposes. I have no idea whether it actually works or not.
It'll be about 10 minutes or so (from this message being posted) until Hijack v337 appears on the website.
Cheers

Mark, thank you so much.
I wish I still had a radio to test it with. I am unable to provide any useful feedback on your new hijack version, but I will relatively soon, hopefully. Certainly others here with the same rds problem will give good feedback.
Again, thanks for your help!
