quickly, using hamzy's directions, i finally did get ftp running and the no ftp user is fixed. not sure what the problem was, but it is working now. i can ftp into my windows machine with war ftp running, but when i ftp to the empeg, it just sits there and hangs. do i have to be in a special mode or anything or can i just be at a bash prompt?

also, i am trying to get pico installed (i can't even figure out how to exit vi). i have it in /usr/bin, but trying to run it only yeilds "cannot execute binary file". any suggestions as to what i am doing wrong? i downloaded "pico-bin.linux" from univ of washington, chmod 755 it, cp pico-bin.linux /usr/bin/pico, but it never works? any ideas? maybe i should just learn how to use vi.

...It would have to be compiled for the ARM processor, which it most likely isn't.. take a look t the debian destributions to see if there's a pico there..
