When I try to fast forward through parts of songs, it keeps fast-forwarding after I quit pressing the button. I think it did it in rewind too. what might cause this?

1) Which version of the software are you running? This sounds similar to a bug that happened in an old version of the software and has been fixed in recent versions.

2) Are you running any third party programs that might interfere with the player?

3) Do you simply have sticking buttons?

Hijack shouldn't do this unless you are also running some third party programs from it and there's something wrong in one of those, or you are using ir_translate. If you're not doing either of those things, then I doubt it's got anything to do with hijack.

Try this:
Turn on the HD Icon in Emplode/JEmplode, and resync.
See if it happens when the icon is hollow with a BRIGHT center line..

This happens to mine all the time, whenever the HD icon is like that. (Other times, it works fine.) Also on 2.0 and latest Hijack.
(Basically, what I think is with mine is that the drive is too slow at the interrupt, and taking IRQ/interrupt time away from the buttons/remote, etc.)

Me.

When you say "some songs", is it those same songs consistently and never other songs or is there no connection to specific songs?

Do you have Emphatic (the lyric scroller) installed?

He doesn't have emphatic installed.

I wonder if maybe it matters if the tracks are VBR or CBR ? I don't fast forward on my much so I haven't noticed anything wrong.

If you are using VBR, and the headers are wrong or missing (as with some encoders), you will see this kind of thing happen. See if it is the same file all the time, and verify that the file does not have any encoder problems.

I've found (at least with 2.00 final) that if I have a VBR file with a dodgy seek table or no seek table, that it will not let me fast forward or rewind. I normally have the "elapsed/total" time view - with these dodgy files, I simply don't get the (edit) total bit.

I believe this is a relatively new change.

Edit: Changed elapsed to total...

Actually, it had been broken previously. I did a bulk fix of my VBR files (with MP3 TagEdit), and I have not had those problems since. It is a worthwhile time investment.

I don't believe this is "broken" really in the player software. The files are dodgy which makes it very difficult to seek correctly ... therefore don't let the user seek.

And yes I went through and fixed all mine too although there were only a few hundred.

Right, my first thought was dodgy VBR files, but then I realized that when files have a missing VBR header, the 2.0 software just prevents them from doing FF/RW at all. So I discounted that idea.

Although I wonder...

If a song had a VBR header, but the header was somehow wrong, maybe the player would incorrectly interpret it and cause this "stuck" behavior. Dunno, I don't have any files with trashed VBR headers to test against.
