many people looking for tuner-kits!
why big work in development of a tuner for empeg? is it not much more easy to write a driver/software for the icom pcr-100?
this tuner is small, 12v, 0.5-1300mhz, stereo, controled by rs232, compatible to everywhere- europe and usa, cheap, perfect to listen everything in car,- not only musik! in germany it is 250 euros, in america must be cheaper.
german link: http://www.thiecom.de/shop1/PCznEmpfaenger_zl_BreitbandempfaengerPCznEmpfaengerICOM.html
it is also a Daemon / Command Line interface
for Linux available : http://www.mv.com/ipusers/cdwalker/pcrd.html
is this not interesting?
i have one for my pc- realy good receiver!

Because it would be much more difficult to interface it to the player software.
It would also take up the one serial port the player has, which is a problem for those wanting to use GPS receivers.
Also, it doesn't appear to be any cheaper in the US.

I thought the empeg tuner used a serial port dedicated to it, and if you weren't going to use it, you could steal it... to use as a serial port?

Really? That'd be sweet! Then I wouldn't need a terminal server to use both OBD-II and a GPS.

Oh I love this wide frequency range, so I could imagine playing around with packet radio (amateur radio). But since there's no interface to the empeg I won't get it for this.
I couldn't find a RDS feature, isn't it implemented in this ICOM-receiver? Also a big plus for me, expecially TMC.

Don't forget that the tuner interface is also a serial port - if you note in the boot log, there are three serial ports seen by the kernel at boot.I may not be as difficult to interface as you think.

I agree, learning to solder seems soooo much easier by comparison.
But hey, you know what people on this BBS are capable of if the inclination takes them.....

[slaps self] - Glad you pointed that out because I'd missed it completely
What is it at the moment, I'm sure the spelling never used to be this bad. I think the empeg meet is frying peoples brains

Three? What's the third serial port used for? Is it brought out anywhere, or is it just languishing inside some big ASIC?

It is indicative of the sort of day I'm having that I forgot about the IR port while installing empire/palantir.
Sigh.

You need an automotive spec tuner for use in a car, otherwise it will be utterly crap, irrespective of how good it is while stationary. The problem set is quite different.
