After installing the developer car version on my empeg and the new hijack kernel as well, i am having an issue with the unit. When the unit is turned on or rebooted, it never goes back to where it left off in a song or playlist. Did i set something wrong in the config.ini?

There is a chance that it's just a coincidence, and that the problem you're having is unrelated to the software upgrade. There are known issues with this sort of thing here and here. Check to see if it's either of those things.

nope, neither of those apply. this is just when i turn the car back on, the player automatically goes to "end of playlist" even though it was in the middle of a song when i turned it off.

Try doing a synch once with Emplode and see if that fixes the problem.
