I set up a PII400 as a DHCP server and it is leasing and reserving ip addresses fine, I can browse the network, use remote desktop, etc.

But when it comes to acessing the internet, only the manually configured computers (meaning I set up the ip, dns and gateway configurations on each particular computer) access the internet .

Is there a "special" way I'm supposed to "tell" the DHCP Program in win2k where the internet is so it will tell the devices receiving a dynamic address as well as the devices in the "Reservations" area??

This may be obvious, but there should be an option for default router, default gateway, or something similar. DHCP does tell the client what its default route is in the same manner it tells it what its IP address is.

I haven't touched 2000server for a while, but there should be a config in DHCP to assign the default route/gateway for each DHCP range you define

I *thought* that was all there is to it but for some reason it's not working. I must be doing something stupid somewhere.

The window xp laptop and replaytv both seem to be picking up the default gateway and dns servers fine but just will not connect to the web. I was wondering if there is some other kind of service I should be installing along with dhcp.

I guess I'll work on it some more tonight.

Do you get the same settings when you run "ipconfig /all" in a command prompt for the DHCP and static configs?

Easy enough... thanks for pointing me in the right direction. DNS wasn't configured properly. I did the ipconfig /all on the computer that was able to connect to the internet then reconfigured the network connection to request an ip and the DNS servers were missing. As shown in the attachment.
