I'm going to be working in sort of a virtual recording session with a friend of mine, and we'd like to have our webcams (with sound... that part is important) working so that we can converse easily.

Doesn't need to be super high quality, it just needs to a) work on his Mac with the iSight camera, and b) work on my Windows 98se with a cheap USB webcam.

The trick is getting them easily cross-platform interoperable with sound. Yahoo doesn't have sound as far as I know, does it?

Anyone have suggestions as to which package we can use?

Edit... he's on OSX and currently uses iChat AV...

I'm messing with iVisit, we'll see if that works well...

I don't use a mac too often, but i know they have a version of windows messenger for mac osx. i'm not sure if they have built in the video messaging part. but it is the only thing i can think of.

actually, it doesn't http://messenger.msn.com/Mac/Features.aspx?client=2

I do know someone that did work from microsoft mac support, so i'll ask him if there is any beta version he knows of that could do this.

Apparently the official AIM client will "soon" support the protocol iChat uses; not that it helps you now...

Thanks guys. Turns out that iVisit, even though it seemed like the best candidate, sucked completely.

Plus, I was having odd USB troubles and my webcam quit working, so we basically gave up on the videoconference idea and just did instant-message chat and exchanged a lot of files. Worked well in the end.

This page shows several programs on the Mac that work with the iSight, and a few are cross platform.

Sorry for the late response, just stumbled across it today.

edit, found this as well to get the Mac to talk to NetMeeting.
