I just finished watching Building the Biggest: Supership on TLC that originally aired in 2001. In the last five minutes they mentioned the Freedom Ship and quickly skimmed over some of its features, etc. All I can saw is whoa.

Yeah, I saw that a while ago. It looks to me like an unfunded idea that isn't likely to fly^Hoat. I wouldn't even like to guess what the building costs would be.

Yeah, I thought of that too, since I love Niven. (Though that is one of his worst books IMHO)

I was looking at the route the boat takes, and it goes through some of the most pirated waters of modern times (off Malaysia and East Africa). I hope they are going to put some serious firepower on that puppy. I would love for it to be built though, it would really be a modern wonder.
