I just ordered the Gefen 4-way DVI switch that comes out next week ... Anyone know why the hell these are so expensive? Are they expensive because they can be or because there are some components/labor that dictate that they must be? I'm assuming they figure if somebody has so many components that use DVI that they need to switch as many as four, they can probably charge a boatload for the switch? Oh well ...

Hmmm.. this begs the question: if you do have a reason to buy a 4-way DVI switch do YOU have a boatload of money? What are you using this for? We need pictures.

VGA is pretty easy to switch around, being an analog connection. DVI on the other hand is a digital signal, and is quite picky about disconnects (well, PC DVI anyhow. Thanks to Bruno and his pals at ATI, I can plug in a DVI monitor to my Powerbook at any time and it works).

It's not really that exciting ... OK, well it's exciting to me, but probably not really to other people. And I actually only need a 3 switch, but there are only a 2 and a 4. It's just HDTV Satellite Receiver + PC w/ DVI Out + V Bravo DVD Player w/ DVI Out.

This thing works great, by the way ... The remote is the ugliest piece of cheap crap I've ever seen, but I assume they know people who buy these have their own programmables. Instantaneous response when switching and no degradation that I can see (is there even such a thing as a digital signal degradation? I guess when it gets /really/ bad and things pixelate ...... oh well). Anyway, it was pricey for what it is, but I highly recommend it. It even comes with 4 (I think 3 foot) DVI cables to connect your devices up to it.
