Ok, the Beta is a Beta because it's in Beta-state, I know.
But my Empeg stops playing songs (as discussed). What can I do? Now it don't want to play anymore. Not even after syncing or just rebooting. This never happened before.
Do I have to downgrade to version 2 or do you have a hint for me?

Just for the record... v3 is Alpha, so don't expect it to be as stable as the 2.00betas.

Did you try to Bug Reports forum? Do a search there, I think this has happened before.

my normal procedure is notice it has hung pull it, reinsert, notice it has hung again, swear loudly, push skip, pull it and reinsert again.

Yes, the same happened here. I ended up reverting back to v2.00, but then lost my entire database. Emplode would just crash, and jEmplode only found 5 albums or so worth of music. Had to login to the shell, rm the database files, and force the player to rebuild the entire database. Been fine for two weeks now on 2.00. Didn't lose a thing, but was sure scared for a bit.

Especially the point swear loudly seems to be important, because this is what I do every time it hangs :-).

I never thought of pressing skip and then rebooting the machine. This will stay in my mind.

Every day when it hangs I think about downgrading to my good old 2.0 beta, because the final 2.0 had bugs, too.
