Just the 5 functions? Or are there more on the back? If that's all it has I'm not sure what advantages it has over the Pioneer remotes unless you really like that 4-way joystick thingie.

Really impossible to say if the empeg will recognize *anything* from it unless the carrier frequency is known. Even then, it's possible that remote just sends a "pressed" code and no "released" code in which case there would be no way to detect short vs. long presses.

I seem to remember the Rio not recognising the IR from my Clarion remote.... But I'm not positive. Maybe I'll try it tonight if I still remember when I get home.

I really don't want to use a remote that needs to be strapped to the wheel like the Clarion in this thread nor the Pioneer Tony has. I'm thinking I may just have to buy another Kenwood KCA-700 or try my luck with a Sony stalk and an adapter (or tuner if necessary).

Right now I'm just wondering what to do about a single DIN car (the empeg is most definitely going in the dash - just wondering if I can hide a CD player somewhere else).

Here is one i was also looking at.
This one you can place anywhere and it's only $18!!!!!!!

That one you linked to is no good - its uses "Hi-Band" IR frequencies which the Empeg won't "see".

Probably why its being sold so cheaply.
