I picked up the Karma a couple of days ago and I am having a few issues that may or may not be useful information for the beta team.

First off I have to say I love the Karma in comparision to the iPod. Actually there really is not comparision, the Karma is better hands down. Once some of the issues with RMM and the firmware get ironed out it will be that much better. So now to the issues I have found so far. It maybe I'm just missing something but I will list them regardless...

1) RMM or the Karma seems to hang while transferring music. At this point I can't seem to get more than one albam at a time transferred onto the Karma. In RMM it may transfer 8 or so songs then stops of any given song. The Karma just hangs. Sometimes it transfers all songs in a list but hangs from there I have to undock the Karma. If I look on the Karma maybe only half the songs in the list that I transfered show.
It's not a tag issue, I don't think because if I try later to do the same task it will finish successfully.

2) With the problems with the transfers in RMM I wanted to try to see if I get the same results with RMM lite. I can't seem to get this installed. The problem I'm having is getting the Karma connected to my network. I just can't seem to get it to work.

3) Same as a lot of other people. The Karma will randomly skip songs or lock up while playing.

Again, This thing has a ton of potential. I love the form factor and the options it has. This is by far the closest thing out there to the empeg functionality, that I've seen. Go figure. I look forward to future updates toresolve some of the issues we have.

Thanks again for ANOTHER amazing product.

Quick question: have you upgraded your firmware?

I have to undock the Karma. If I look on the Karma maybe only half the songs in the list that I transfered show.
We should perhaps mention somewhere (or in bigger letters if we already do!) that, if a transfer fails, you should use the Troubleshooting menu on the Karma to rescan your music. It's likely that the other half the songs are there too, so you might have ended up with duplicates.

If these are Ethernet transfers, the situation is much improved in the newer 1.1 firmware and pretty flawless in the forthcoming 1.2 firmware.

Yes,

I have updated the firmware. It took a bit of doing just to get that to work. The first few times I tried it I kept getting and "Unknown error has occured." That my not be the exact message, but that is pretty much what it said. Finally on my forth or so try it worked fine.

At this point I can't get ethernet capabilities to work at all.

Does the ethernet LED on the rear of the dock light up AT ALL?

Some of the beta units had totally DOA ethernet ports, but this should not be the case with production ones..

Greetings!

The data LED only should go on when the Karma is sending data. Or is it receiving data... In any case, it only lights on one direction of network traffic.

Yes, the rear lights on the docking station light up.

Yes, the rear lights on the docking station light up.
If both of the rear lights on the docking station light up solid, then that is actually a failure indication believe it or not. Only one of the lights should light up solid. The other light should be off most of the time and only blink briefly when data is being transferred.

The Karma's ethernet port has some kind of an incompatibility with certain hubs and switches, and this problem hasn't been solved yet. The indicator of this incompatibility is two solid lights on the back of the dock.

In other news... The errors you're reporting with the USB connection, even when upgrading the software, seem to indicate some kind of USB trouble.

That would explain it. Thanks Tony. Yes I get two solid lights. My router is a D-Link, can't remember the model off the top of my head.

USB issue? I hadn't thought of that. I haven't had issues with that in the past (with other devices) but that makes sense. I will investigate further tonight.

I guess I will just have to wait on a fix for the ethernet issue. That's fine. Issues with a new product are expected. With the group of people involved I know it will happen at some point.

Great little device.

If you've got an ethernet crossover cable you can try it connected directly to your computer.

Yeah, I could do that, but its not that I need this to work at the moment it would just be nice if it did. I can wait on it. I just wanted to make sure it was nothing I was doing wrong. The double solid lights did confuse me. Tony's explanation made perfect sense.

Thanks,

Yeah. But if it does work with the crossover then it's something to do with the switch/hub. If it doesn't work at all then it might be that the ethernet port isn't working.

Well Tony, as usual you were right. The USB 2.0 card I have must have gone bad. I switched from my USB 2.0 card to the 1.1 and had no issues with RMM, although painfully slow. I guess it's time to buy a new USB 2.0 card. I haven't tried troubleshooting the ethernet issue yet. Maybe tonight.

Thanks!

Not necessarily -- it could just be an incompatibility that only shows up occasionally. What make of card is it?

Does the card work with any other USB 2.0 devices?

I don't remember the make. It's just a generic card. At this point no other devices seem to work on it either. It must have just been bad timing. The card went when it saw the Karma . With that in mind I am looking for a new USB 2.0 card for my desktop. Any suggestions on what brand will work best with the Karma?
