The iPod Mini

I don't know, though... For only $50 more one could just get the 15gb iPod.

OK, the price point on this thing kinda pisses me off. I don't see how they're going to sell many of them if it doesn't come with a wired remote or a dock. If I add those items to the order, the price comes out to about $330. that's only $70 less than the 20gb model that comes with both a dock and a wired remote - not to mention 5 times the storage.

To be honest, I think the selling point is supposed to be the size, not the price.

Not to mention it looks so much better than the hideous white bar of soap design on the regular ipod. Smaller is better. I cant use my ipod at the gym because it has a habit of pulling down my pants.

Those are good points. It looks like you're saving about 2.5 cubic inches total in size, and half the weight. That's pretty impressive. Hopefully the battery life issues have been resolved in this generation of Apple's mp3 players.

Have you checked the Karma forum? Rio announced a new player that is also 4 gigs but is smaller and has a longer battery life.

Sorry to keep replying to myself, but in case anybody didn't catch the Macworld Keynote, Apple also announced a new software app called Garage Band. This is one COOL piece of recording software. The demo at the keynote was done by John Mayer and he really showed it off well!

GarageBand looks like your standard multitrack recording software to me. I can't see anywhere on that page where it gives a price point, though. Based on the name, I'm guessing it's another me-too stripped-down multitrack recorder with an Under-$150 price. *YAWN*

$49 with a "Jam Pack" add on for $99.

I don't have much experience with digital recording, but the virtual instruments that they demoed in GarageBand sure sounded a lot better then those I've heard in CakeWalk. They demoed the $49 version, btw.

Yeah, virtual instrument technology is improving by the hour these days. Wonder if they're using the virtual instrument code from Logic. I've seen other Apple products that used Logic plug-ins (such as a video editing package that used some of their audio effects plug-ins). Now that they own Emagic, they can do that.
