I tried to upload a new playlist to my player today and emplode errored out at the disk integrity check. I have since lost all the playlists on the player and the only thing I can play is the aux input. I've already tried this but it didn't work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Here's a copy of the hyperterminal text and I have bolded the things that I see wrong but I don't know what to do about them:

Greetings!

It is likely that you have a corrupt or missing database file, as seen in your "Database size mismatch error". Go into the player, delete the existing database files and resync.

EXT2-fs warning: checktime reached, running e2fsck is recommended
This means that the time since the last FS check has been exceeded. It's harmless.
Tried to mount /dev/hda4 as reiserfs but got error 19
This error is normal. The car player partitions are ext2 so it will always fail to mount as ReiserFS.

You tried deleting the database from the empeg and getting emplode to recreate it?

Instructions for database rebuilding are here, but I would be concerned with why the databases need to be rebuilt.

Greetings!

It errored out as part of a standard sync, according to the post. It is likely, looking at the boot log, that one of the programs (empire, telnetd) had a file open on a drive that was targeted for FSCK.

Wow. I do not envy the admins that are moderating these posts!!! They must be coming in pretty fast!

Call me dumb, but how do I do this through the hyperterminal?

Don't. According to what Paul just said, you need to remove/disable Empire and Telnetd and re-FSCK before doing the database rebuild. Only after that should you rebuild the databases. As it says in the FAQ entry here, don't try to FSCK or synch with things like that running live.

How do I do this? I can't use config.ini from emplode b/c it won't resync and I'm familiar with linux enough to know how to do this. Any advice?

edit: that was suppose to be that I'm NOT familiar enough with linux but the instructions you linked were easy to follow, Tony.

It still won't rebuild the database in emplode nor does it rebuild after deleting the config.ini and then trying to rebuild it manually.

Delete the config.ini file and start over from scratch, then, as described here.

Well, I'm off for the weekend. It looks like I'm stuck with the radio until Monday. I'll check back then.

Thanks for the help!

I'm checking on Russmeister's player

There are/were some serious issues.
the fids folder on drive0 was missing, and in its place was a file called fids that contained track info for a single song.

I deleted the file and re-created the fids folder and then ran an fsck.

It found a ton of problems and fixed them.

There is still nothing in the fids folder, however, the lost+found folder is populated with a ton of entries, the last few look something like this:

-rw-r--r-- 1 0 0 146 Apr 16 2003 #9989

drwxr-xr-x 6 0 0 4096 Aug 9 14:58 ..

If I'm thinking correctly, these are his old song right? Is there any way to recover them, or did I already hose myself by deleting and re-creating the fids folder?

The big ones are tunes, but you'd have to rename and resort them properly, and recreate the various playlists. Messy, very messy.

If the files are available on a PC somewhere, then just nuke the contents of lost+found and reload the music.

Cheers

Ok. Uploading tunes now. I'm still getting this message in HT though:

It's complaining about the fact that /etc/mtab is missing. You can ignore it.

Cool. Left it going overnight and it now has roughly 16 gig of music on it and more uploading. Seems to be working great.

I think we can say 'case closed'.

For a minute there I thought I had a really expensive aux input.

Nice to know that's not the case.
