Hello. I have a Rio Empeg that I've been sitting on for a couple of years. Now that my car stereo got stolen, I think now is a good time to get it installed.

Is there anyone in the East Bay/Berkeley CA area that could install this for me? I'm willing to pay you $100. I think that's fair.

Please email me at [email protected]

thanks

And a good time to remind everyone: Don't leave your empegs in your cars, people! It's a pullout... take it with you!

It's a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire. My buddy has an empeg and he told me that the install is a little weird and your average car stereo technician wouldn't know how to install it...

It's not that weird. Especially if you already have amps installed. In fact, it isn't weird at all. I installed my own in about an hour, and the hardest part was taking out the old HU and figuring out which wire was which in the ford connector. Other than that, there are just a few wires. Ground, battery power, switched power, headlight sensor, and 4 RCA's. No big whoop. Just make sure you run the ground to a good ground point, preferably the same one used for your amps. Also make sure your battery power line runs all the way to the battery (not the fuse box), and has a fuse very near the battery.

If a tech can't figure it out, they have no business installing stereos. Then again, I wouldn't let half of those guys anywhere NEAR my car.

If you do it yourself make Mark D help you (I'm the guy that helped Mark install his). It really isn't that hard if you know anything about installing after-market stereos. You need an amp if you don't have one already. If you buy it from Crutchfield they will send you their install sheets which tell you how to take your dash apart and what wire is what. If you already have an after-market stereo installed it is really simple.
