Got a business trip to St Louis and New York planned for mid-March and I want to take advantage of the silly value of the dollar to get myself a Karma.

So where is the best place to get one from? St Louis or NYC? Any recommendations on what shop to go to?

Alternatively, I could order one online and get it delivered to my friend who lives in NY. If I did that, where is the best place to order from?

I had planned on popping into J&R. Used to spend faaaar too much money in there when I lived in NY.

Whatever happened to "Noboby Beats The Wiz"? They seem to have vanished - although they were competely hopeless so it's no real suprise.

Nobody Beats the Wiz went out of business probably about 5 years ago because everyone beat them.

Then, Cablevision bought them and changed their name back to The Wiz. Within a couple months, they closed half the stores. Soon after that they were all closing. What a joke. I hear PC Richard now owns the name and they plan to open stores again with it.

Hmm, £132 for a Karma. Is it worth it though if it breaks after a month? Colleague of mine is going to LA in two weeks, should I get him to get me one? The warranty is one thing that's putting me off.

Get him to pick it up at Best Buy and then pay $50 (£26.5) for the extended 3 year warranty. Still cheaper than in the UK and you get a 3 year warranty instead of a 1 year warranty.

Assuming you can get it back to the Best Buy when it fails.

Hmm. That's not too much use if it'd cost a fortune to bring or ship it back for replacement. (And possibly get stung with a customs screw up too).

I'd be more tempted to consider just taking advantage of the ludicrous exchange rate and getting 2 to start with. I don't know what the UK street price is, but a quick search found a price comparison site claiming UKP285. If that's accurate you could get 2 for the price of 1!

According to their website, they are valid at any Best Buy nationwide, and I'm sure there are plenty of forum members who would be more than happy to do the swap. Not only that, but the warranty is transferrable and follows the product, so it wouldn't be a problem if someone other than the purchaser took it back.

One thought on all of this. If you have the lead time, you might be better off having someone out of state buy it over the web and send it to the person who you are meeting up with. What are NYC and state sales taxes these days???

8.625% - 4.25?% of that is state, the rest is city tax. At least I think that's how the 8.625% breaks down.

I just ordered one from J&R. Since they are based in NY, there is no tax. They had a free shipping offer. So the Karma was $249. That was the best I saw recently.

They don't seem to have any in stock though
