I record a lot of radio programmes which I transfer to the Karma for listening, they're renamed sequentially based on date and placed in a playlist. When I play this playlist the play order seems to be random, even though Shuffle is off and the playlist is in sequence. What am I doing wrong?

I guess your Track Number tags are wrong or not filled in at all.

They're not tagged, so does the Karma only work on tags?

And another thing, if I tag them how does it know whether I want to play in Track No or Title order?

The tags shouldn't matter if they're in a playlist. Do they appear in the right order in Karma's Playlists menu? Do they appear in the right order in Rio Music Manager's Playlists tab? (Make sure it's sorted by the "Index" column.)

They appear in the right order in RMM, bit on the Karma they're all jumbled, here's the first couple of lines of the playlist:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:2340,01-Climate Wars 20-01-2004 -
01-Climate Wars 20-01-2004.mp3
#EXTINF:894,02-My Life In Orange 21-01-2004 -
02-My Life In Orange 21-01-2004.mp3
#EXTINF:1739,03-Filling The Void 21-01-2004 -

Crazy. Are they in the same jumbled order each time, or does it re-jumble them every time you select the playlist?

Same order, starts with track 27 then 24,35,08 etc, I've just played the playlist in Winamp and it's fine.

Track ordering information should never exist in the title field, so I would think that it would always play in track number order. If the track numbers aren't filled in, I would suppose they'd play in FID order (i.e., the order the files landed onto the hard disk, which could in theory be random.). Neither of those things has anything to do with the track title, I would hope that the track title is never used to determine order.

I'll tag 'em & try again

No, you're right, but if my playlist is created in filename order then that's the order it should be played in isn't it? (Used to be OK on my iPod)

If by "playlist", you are referring to an M3U file on your PC's hard disk, I don't think the Karma uses those at all other than to extract file names for importing.

If you want a created-on-the-karma playlist (which is not an M3U file) to play in order, then you have to order it yourself.

Well no, but it should certainly do so in the right order. Epwc, what happens if you transfer the playlist again from RMM? Is this the latest RMM (2.60)?

Hello Peter & Tony

I didn't reply because I'm still having problems with RMM crashing/hanging, I cut down my music library to just 40/50 files and managed to get it run, when I looked at the Karma playlist it wasn't in the correct order. I couldn't copy the playlist over again with RMM it kept crashing, so I downloaded RioRad and did it with that, the Karma playlist is now in the correct order.
