For those of you who liked Buffy, Angel, and Firefly, former Angel and Firefly producer Tim Minear's new show Wonderfalls premieres tonight, Friday, March 12, at 9PM (Eastern).

I don't know that it'll be any good, but it's probably worth giving a shot if you like Joss Whedon's output.

Damn, I knew I missed something. I wanted to check it out.

So, anyway, who watched it and what do you think?

It was a pretty good show... I only caught the last half an hour though.

Anyone manage to catch this on a Replay 5xxx series? I missed the post about this until today.

Sorry guys. I should have posted about it sooner, but I just didn't think of it.

It was okay. I wanted it to be better, but it's just a pilot. I'll give it a little while. I just didn't feel the subtext that exists on Whedon's shows, but, again, it's just a pilot.

The basic idea is that there's this girl from a rich family in Niagara Falls, NY who realizes that her whole family works themselves to death and are unhappy, so she decided to take a menial job at a Niagara Falls gift shop so she can exert much less effort and remain unhappy. Then the knickknacks in the store (and elsewhere) with animals on them start talking to her and telling her to do bizarre stuff and she doesn't know why. Hilarity ensues. Having not seen Joan of Arcadia, it sounds fairly similar.

On the other hand, last night's premiere of Touching Evil, which I expected to be just okay, turned out to be quite good. The ads said that it was co-executive produced by the Hughes Brothers, but they failed to mention that it was directed by a Hughes Brother (Allen). I don't know if they/he plan to direct more episodes of it, but the directing and cinematography was, I thought, orders above almost everything else I've seen on TV, and having the direction come back down to normal TV drama levels would be weird. Given the fact that they go after slightly odd projects (the documentary American Pimp comes to mind), I wouldn't be surprised if they swapped off direction of each episode or something. But we'll have to wait and see.

Oh, and for our British friends, yes, it is a remake of the ITV/Granada series of the same name, which appeared previously in the US on PBS as a set of episodes for the anthology series Mystery!. I never saw it, though.

Touching Evil looked pretty good to me, so I'm glad you liked it. I'll have to check it out now. Apparently Bruce Willis has something to do with it as well.

That does indeed sound similar to Joan of Arcadia, but then again, I love that kind of stuff. I'll check it out too. Bittorrent is my world now. I've been watching so much TV this past few months it's ridiculous. I just wish I could find Buffy torrents. They've all disappeared...

Eh. I'm not terribly disappointed. The whole talking object thing was already old and there wasn't much else there to hold my interest.

Maybe I've got a short attention span, but I think I need some sort of metaphor or allegory to keep me watching a show, or at least a compelling mystery. I couldn't find one there.

Yeah. Speaking of which, when you get a chance go vote for it on TVShowsOnDVD.com. It's locked right now because people tried to vote multiple times by creating multiple accounts, so try in about a week.

I know it wasn't the greatest show on, but it was a hellava lot better than a lot of the other crap on TV now. So, I think it deserves to be on DVD. I'll buy it.

And it is canceled...

Figures... Every show i start to watch from the first episode and actually like they take off the air... I think i will stick to watching shows in reruns... Whats next, Monk???
