I have DVD Moviefactory 3 and lately whenever I use it to burn a dvd, it comes up with an error half way through it (before it actually burns the Dvd) and it says that my virtual memory is low. So I changed the settings to a much higher setting and it still doesn't work. At first, it did it on my 40gb drive so I switched drives to the 200 gb one and it worked fine. Now it is doing it on that one....any ideas what might be causing this?

DVd Moviefactory is using too much memory. You should try increasing the size of your pagefile to see if that helps. I doubt it will though- it sounds like the program is eating up all available memory because of a bug of some sort.

You mean "where are the pagefile settings?" Knowing where the actual pagefile is isn't going to help you.
Depends on which version of Windows you're running. Usually, right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties". On Windows XP, under "Advanced" click on "Performance" / "Settings", select the "Advanced" tab, and then hit the "Change" button.
Usually you won't want to do this, however, because Windows generally (at least these days) picks the right settings for you.
More likely is that your DVD software's got a bug in it that causes it to eat memory, and it doesn't matter how much virtual memory you configure -- it'll still fail.

I've seen a lot of software complain about "memory" or "virtual memory", and in most cases, the actual problem was neither. Google around for that error as related to that particular piece of software and see if anyone else on the net has the same problem.

is there any good programs to test my memory and/ or to find out exactly what the programs are in the 'Processes' under 'Windows Task Manager'?

is there any good programs to test my memory Do you mean test if your RAM chips are good? Memtest86 is really cool. Especially if you have a bootable CD-ROM.
and/ or to find out exactly what the programs are in the 'Processes' under 'Windows Task Manager'? To find out what the programs are in Task Manager, I usually just google them. There is the "Spy" tool that comes with the Microsoft Developer Studio that lets you view the entire process tree in great detail, so you could try that or an equivalent. You could also locate the file on the hard disk with a Search, and view its Properties to see its copyright information.

I downloaded a memory usage meter and what is the average amount of memory being used on a computer? I have 512 mb of memory and it seems that on average there is 40% being used at all times....That seems a little high to me, but I have no idea....

Sounds perfectly normal. A typical Win2k/WinXP machine "uses" 200MB+ of memory by the time it has loaded a couple of apps.

That's why my girlfriend's father had an incredibly slow machine. Dell had sold him an PC with XP installed and only 128MB of RAM. I was amazed that they did that.

I recently bumped my machine from 512MB to 1GB, to better suit Photoshop's insatiable appetite, but I've still been getting low virtual memory warnings. Turns out, Mozilla is being a pig. Watching it on the Task Manager, I've seen Mozilla consuming 180MB or more. Iconifying it typically causes that number to drop to around 20MB. Bring it back and doing anything jumps it right up to 70 or 80MB again. Weird memory leakage, but at least you can coerce it into cleaning itself up.

If you read the bugzilla bug reports about QuickStart, you'll see stuff where they blame, I believe, some Microsoft DLL for the memory leak.

now when I try to use Moviefactory 2, it resets during the audio/video multiplexing. It sometimes will shut off completely, and say NTLDR is missing" ..in the past when it has done that, it would act like the 40 gb hard drive with windows on it is not there...Other times, I just hit the power button, and it comes back on...It then tells me the error was a "kernal_stack_inpage_error"..what might cause this?
