I'm looking for a new NNTP News reader program (I'm running Win XP). I'd want one that will download the whole content (or a selected subset) of a newsgroup - mostly managed support sites - so I can search them locally. I'm tired of searching by subject only to miss the messages that have wandered off topic.

Which ones do you like?

thanks,

-jk

My favourite has always been Agent (I've been using it for over 10 years, I think).

They have a free version that you can try out.

Yeah, I'll second Agent. I also use it for all my personal email. I'm still using my version from 1997 and it still kicks ass.

What makes it so useful for usenet is that its keyboard commands, and its system of ignoring certain threads and all crossposts with a single keystroke, lets you rip through a regularly-read newsgroup in record time. There's a bit of a learning curve to overcome, but once you're there, it's too cool.

At least, that was back in the day when I read Usenet regularly. I don't any more...

I use XNews. It works quite well for both real news and binaries and is totally free.
