Hi, I wonder if this question has been asked many times before, but I was not successful using search: Is there is possibility to play MP3 files -which are hosted on a windows share- on the EMPEG? Here is the scenario, I have all my MP3's on a windows machine at home, now I want to have my home EMPEG to be able to play those directly via the LAN. I was thinking about a smbclient to be installed on the EMPEG, mount a share and play the files. I guess the answer is NO cuz of the player software and how it needs to have files organized... What do you think? Tx S.

You could just use the web interface on the empeg and stream them across the network. Its what I do and I cant tell its streaming.

I think he wants to go the other way.. ie "MP3s on PC > empeg" rather than "MP3s on empeg > PC". I don't know of any way to do this, but it sounds like a RioReceiver would do the job better.

Correct, the empeg does not do this. The Rio Receiver (as well as lots of other network MP3 players) do this quite well.

There has been work done with third-party software which works as a replacement player application on the empeg. Some of those apps do things which are similar to what you're talking about, if I recall correctly. They are not trivial to get working on the empeg, and they don't have the same set of features as the official empeg software. And the software would be pretty "beta" if you get my meaning. But if you're interested in doing some hacking, perhaps someone will chime in here with links to those pieces of software and some instructions for newbies.

Question, why not simply synch those songs to the empeg? If you're out of space, that issue can be addressed.

Hi, thanks a lot for your answers. I couldnt use the players interal disks since I need more space, about 200G, and I have the collection on my PC anyways.

I bought a cheap Hauppauge MediaMVP which does the job somehow, but its not very stable in my environment. The Rio Receiver I think is not available here.

I just wanted to make some use of my backup player

Bye...
