Just ordered myself a new Dell Dimension 8100 and there was a promotion on allowing me to snag a Dell Digital Audio Reciever for free! So... question is... is the software exactly the same between the Rio and the Dell unit?

Yes, in theory the two units are supposed to be the same. But I haven't seen how the software is distributed. Where do you download software updates for the two units? Do you download the updates from the same site? Who distributes it? ___________

I can't find crap as far as support goes on the Dell site, but in the Rio FAQ... it states that Dell fully supports the product and that you should contact their support dept, not Rio's. Rio's site has no new software or firmware for the Reciever... basically all it has is the manuals, and a FAQ. Hm. Looks like i won't be getting the same sorta support on this puppy i get on the empeg eh?

Well, there is no new software (unless the CDs went out before we finished it, which I don't think happened). So there doesn't need to be anywhere to download it from. Yet.

When this time comes, will there be a single download that works the same on both the Dell and Rio units?

Good news. I just didn't see any structure in place on the Dell site for downloads, but i'm guessing they will refer to the Rio site?

That isn't strictly true. The Dell units have version 1.01 software and the Rio units have version 1.03 I believe. The differences are small.

Rio upgrades will work with the Dell product. The first upgrade isn't due yet but it will happen.

I came here looking for answers to similar questions. If the two are truly the same, then they should be compatible with each other, right? So you could have 2 of each in different rooms playing different music at the same time, right?
My fear is that I'll buy the Dell (especially since it's down to $149), and down the road their deal with Rio will go bad. I just want to be sure that if this happens, I'll be able to Add Rios to the system.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

I don't have any official word on it, but yeah, I think that's the plan: The two products should be fully interoperable, and should run the same software.
I wonder how many Receivers can be on the network at once? ___________

Nice forum, by the way. I've bookmarked it. I hope the traffic picks up.

Myself & Roger just did an installation which had 65 receivers running from one PC... (and standard v1.03 software).
More on this when we get a website about it sorted out ;)

You have to understand that I have happy memories ( when a single chap ) of spending time over there and for some reason the ladies appeared to like sleeping on the beach. We all know the empeg guys are gods, but that does not mean I want to sleep with them - --
