The latest alpha release (0.1.3) of JReceiver supports both Dynamic Playlists and a configurable sort order.

For the Rio Receiver, a DP is playlist generated as the result of a database query against the stored ID3 tags. No .m3u or .pls file is involved. The query for tunes is executed when the playlist is requested.

DPs are listed along with other playlists on the Rio Receiver itself. A web interface (see screenshots at JReceiver site) can be used to quickly compose new playlists and edit existing ones.

Configurable sort order is another new feature to achieve the much-coveted order by 'album.name,trackno'. In fact, it is now JReceiver's default ordering.

Glad you like the idea. Dynamic Playlists seemed an obvious and invaluable feature for the Rio.

I may have found a decent Java library to access ID3v2 tag info. If it works out, in a future release of JReceiver you'll be able to filter based upon any of the more advanced tags, such as 'composer'.

It should be possible to extend this to allow you to group together DPs under a new playlist name. This way the filter expressions for individual DPs could be kept small and comprehensible.

I wonder if the Audiotron could ever do this? ;^)
