What would you think about an option so keep playing the current song while you search and select and a different song that's not in the playlist and after playing that song return to the current playlist again.
I think something similar has already been mentioned before but I don't know what has happend to it...

I think something similar has already been mentioned before but I don't know what has happend to it...Yes, this has been suggested elsewhere. Right now, we have two search modes: "Search by title" which dumps the playlist immediately and only plays the search result, and "Append by title" which adds the search result to the end of the playlist. What we need is a third mode called "Insert by title", which inserts the search results immediately after the current song in the playlist. Personally, if such a mode does get written, I think this should become the default mode because it's always what I want to do. In fact, I don't think I have ever wanted the search to behave the ways that it currently does. ___________ Tony Fabris

I think we'll be able to do this with "Bookmarking" in 1.1. Right?

Oh, and while I'm harping on this feature, there's something else I think the search results should do: Give a "Flash" box feedback that tells the user what it just did. For example, if you do an "Append by title", it should flash a box saying "Appended to Playlist", and if you do an "Insert by title", it should flash "Inserted After Current Song". (Or something like that). ___________ Tony Fabris

What we need is a third mode called "Insert by title"
This is exactly how 1.1 will work. (I added it after taking a player to a party and getting frustrated with the current searching modes.)
I think this should become the default mode
The player remembers which mode you used last. If you never switch it out of insert mode, it'll always start up in insert mode.
And yes, you could do this with bookmarking too but this direct way is easier.

Ummm.. yeah - did anyone boo him when the music stopped for a second while he was arranging the next song's order?:)Ahem. Insert-after-current runs on a separate thread (like shuffle does in 1.1), so unless the currently-playing song ends while it's still working out what the next one should be, audio doesn't stop. Cool. Because currently when I shuffle the whole unit, there's a pause as it churns on 1500 songs. What about the "Tweak Order" functions? They are nearly pause-free in the current software, unless the unit's grabbing data from the hard disk at the time, in which case there's a pause similar to the shuffle pause. ___________ Tony Fabris

Yes, Tweak Order is also done on the shuffler thread in 1.1, and should never pause the audio except when the current track ends.
