When I drop to a shell using my shiny new USB keyboard, it mounts / with read-only access. Is there a secret trick to get RW access? Thanks.

Heh, you're going to love this one.

Type rw and press the Enter key.

And you get one guess how to put it back into read-only mode.

Just one question: Why do you want to muck around with the filesystem? If you don't know what you're doing, you will quickly ruin your music files, your database, and render your Central inoperable. Sure you want to do that?

Why do I want to muck with the filesystem?

1. Need to force the OS to autoload the pegasus usb eth module. I have a pegasus usb dongle, but not one that's explicitly supported.

2. Need to install telnet or ssh daemon so I don't have to sit on the floor next to the Central.

3. Commence hacking.

I haven't figured out what I'm going to do yet. First, I need to figure out how much spare cpu / ram I have.

BTW, thanks for the "rw" / "ro" tip. You easily saved me hours of googling.

No problem, glad I could help.

Understood about the pegasus/SSH thing, that makes sense. Ask the folks on the Empeg BBS if there's a particular SSH daemon that works well on that architecture.
