http://sourceforge.net/projects/grandcentral/

It's called "grandcentral", but it's not quite grand yet. I've been using it for a few months, and it's stable. It's not pretty and it's a pain to set up new stations.

However, it does play shoutcast streams.

If you have some ideas for features feel free to drop them here or over on sourceforge.

I'm thinking about expanding it to do more, but I need to see what they have done with hijack first to see what I can snag from that so I don't have to repeat work. (Not that I did much of anything original for this, it was mostly snagged from other code.)

Instructions: Burn the iso to disk, pop it in, and pray.

Disclaimer: I had to take my rio apart once because I locked up the player... let others try if first if you aren't comfortable popping the cover and manually ejecting the CD.

Oh yeah, special thanks to the Rio guys for making your code relatively easy to understand.

Has anyone made modifications to the rio central source code? I made a few tweaks, and if someone is already maintaining it, I'd rather just give the source to them. If not, I'll post the source on sourceforge.

So I take it that hole under the cd door isn't a manual eject ?

Nope, it's just a hole. I've been thinking of rigging up a lever so that I could use that hole to push the eject button. However, I only had to pop the cover once, and I'm 90% sure it was due to some wierd mounts I had setup, etc.

I don't know of anyone else who has setup a linux distribution on their central, so I doubt anyone else would need to open the cover to eject the disk.

Don't bother trying to rig up any way to press the CD drive's eject button. It doesn't work even if you press it.

I have had a long standing problem on my Central where certain front-panel buttons don't work at all (and despite a lot of help from Hugo with the schematics, I still cannot find the fault, it's not in the ribbon cables connecting the display to the motherboard), so I am unable to eject the disc though normal means as well. Opening the case and pressing the drive's built-in eject button has no effect. Details in this thread.

(Side note: You may ask, how do I ever get the thing to eject the disc at all? I do it by going into the main menu and saying multiple CD mode.)

Hmmm. The cdrom button did work for me. However, I think it only works for a second or two after the unit gets power. That, or I pulled out the cdrom and put it in a usb external housing and hit the button. I don't remember exactly what trickery I used, but I do remember that it worked.

When I try to burn the iso with nero it complains there is an error and may create a bad disk. I tried it anyway but when I stick the disk into the central it does nothing.

Now I tried it with alcolol 120% and it appears to have installed so here's a stupid question. How do I set up a station ?

1) Go to the "games" menu and make sure it's there.
2) Read the brief instructions (use the pad to navigate, play to click and standby to exit)
3) Make sure it works (play one of the stations)

Ok, if you get this far, here's the very ugly part:

The station url and names are kept in a file:

/empeg/games/GrandCentral/etc/stations

You have to manually edit that file (probably have to ftp it off unless the central comes standard with an editor).

Nope it's not under games. The install ran fine without an error.

Interesting.

Mind going through a small list of stuff?

1. What version of the firmware are you running?
2. Could you check if /upgrader_out is present in the root directory? If so, could you post it or message it to me?

thx.
