Went and saw Rush's 30th Anniversary Tour last night at Red Rocks in Colorado. Great, great show. The rain held off, and you could see the lightning over Denver in the distance. That, combined with Rush's light show and the acoustics made it a total blast. They played for over 3 hours - throwing in some good surprises to keep it fresh and not a carbon copy of the Vapor Trails tour. Hopefully, they do another studio album after this.

Only gripe: I didn't really care for the cover tunes they did, and the fact that the concert t-shirts were $30.

I'm doing the Marysville (Sacramento) show on the 12th. No spoilers please!

How was the mix? I've been to some pretty badly-mixed Rush concerts in my time, and some pretty good ones. The fact that they're doing small outdoor amphiteaters this tour (like they did on Vapor Trails) means they're not doing that painfully-overpowering arena sound, so I'm looking forward to seeing this show. I'm hoping the mix will be decent.

Red Rocks won't be a good comparison to other venues. It's a beast in itself. Since the Ampitheater is built into the actual red rock, it makes for some very interesting sounds. After the first couple of songs, they tuned it to adjust.

Next up is Dream Theater and Yes in September.

I missed the concert due to having been booked for my own. The worst part is the CEO of my company had excellent tickets and would have given one to me if I'd been available. Ah how I must suffer for my art . . .

...and the fact that the concert t-shirts were $30.

That doesn't sound too bad to me. At least compared to a lot of the mainstream crap that's out there today. I've seen shirts for younger bands that became popular rather quickly selling for upwards of $50.

Ok, how did I miss that Rush put out a CD of covers? Have I been living under a rock or is it just the curse of owning an empeg that I never hear any new music or even about new relseases by favorite bands?

Anyway, just listened through "Feedback" and and I really like it already. It's a great sound for Rush, much more what I like than VT (still warming up to that one . . .). It's really facinating to hear them do other people's music- and very unexpected!

It's a good summer for me because in addition to the Rush album this last week, we get a new TMBG album next week. :-)
