I've got a Dell SX270 small form factor PC that I'd like to use for video capture (rather, its user needs to do some video capture and I need to find out how). There is no PCI expansion slot and only USB 2.0 plus legacy ports on the back. I think the answer is that I'm SOL in trying to equip this thing with Firewire, but I want to check here before giving up.

So, is there such a beast as a USB 2.0 to Firewire converter?

Nope

You can get USB 2.0 video capture devices though. Any reason why you need Firewire?

Any reason why you specifically chose this PC for doing video capture, as opposed to, say, a PC that's got the proper features for doing video capture?

I would have sworn I read about something similar coming out in the future, but I can't seem to find any rerferences to it at the moment.

We've got an expensive sony video camera at work that has both firewire and usb ports. I've never really used the USB port, so I don't know how usefull it really is.

The real question is what you need to do. If you need to capture from analog sources, then USB2.0 will do fine. If you need DV capture over Firewire, it's going to be a challenge.

Just for the FF/RWD controls. I suppose a frame capture device like the Belkin F5U228 (link here) is what you mean? Any experience with these? I've only used Firewire captures in the past.

Tony - it's got a better processor and more RAM than any other box save my CAD station or the servers.

I think I might try that cable when it becomes available (no place that I can find yet). Thanks.
