Why not make a username change archive to help us (we?) less frequent readers remember who's who.
Some are simple, like jimhogan -> fuknjim, customsex -> l0ser, ynoT -> tony. But I keep seeing others that... I recognize the avitar but forget the name.
To start, my contribution:
FireFox31 -> FireFox31

fukinjim*
yn0t_*
tonyc*

--- l0ser

marria01 -> andym
much better, I no longer have to explain my handle to everyone.
Now, who do I have to pay to get a green name around here?

Have you explained why on this BBS before? It hadn't occurred to me to ask before but since you mentioned it...

I'm mentioned it ages ago, but ended up repeating myself time and again at Amersfoort this year, so here goes.
I registered on the forum after the fire sale to simply post an 'I want to buy an empeg thread'. Obviously I needed to have a handle, one of the things that annoys me most about the internet is having dozens of usernames to remember for various sites. So in a moment of haste I simply entered my IT logon name for work (which I might add is useless unless you have my password, domain and physical access to the network). The name consists of marri (the first 5 letters of my surname Marriott) a (my first initial) and 01 (for I am the first).
After previous experience of BBS's I didn't think I'd hang around for long, but this forum really seems to be unique. There are many users on here that I'm happy to think of as friends, even though many of them I've never met.

Heh, reminds me of the "Brenda Utthead" Dilbert comic.
When I set up the email system for our group, I did the first-of-first-plus-last which resulted in normal-looking email names like "TFabris". But our corporate overlords have a different scheme for their email system which is much more amusing. First five letters of last name followed by first two letters of first name. Somehow this results in some very funny names:
Tod Bouris: Bourito
(With beans and rice, he's a combination plate.)
Tony Fabris: Fabrito
(When my friend Chris saw that on my return address for the first time, he cracked up and started saying "yo soy el Fabrito! Arriba! Arriba!")
Eric Brooks: Brooker
(Clearly the hard boiled cop with a stained past, but he's got a heart of gold)
David Yarwood: Yarwoda
(Mmmm! Today backwards talking we are!)
Etc.

Wow, I totally missed that we can change our names now! I'm sooo ready to drop the "FerretBoy" thing (an old fraternity nickname I used because I thought I'd post only once or twice).

Formerly known as Rue. Just by way of an explanation... Like others have also said here; you typically choose some arbitrary handle because you know that this BBS, just like all of the others you sign up to, is going to be yet another grab-what-you-want-and-run kind of affair. You know that the l33t wtfpwned k1dz on the board and all of their immature bickering means that you have little reason to hang around either. Not to mention the fact that this is the 100th place you've signed up to this week for some reason or another and you want to standardize on an anonymous handle to make logins easier to remember. So, back to origin of "Rue": Well my RL partner calls me Rue - short for And rew and that's where it originated. Would my French friends, if I had any, call me "Street"?
