Player worked fine yesterday. Today I upgraded to Hijack v400, and emphatic 2.00-rc1. No other changes. Plays 2 seconds, then never plays again. Tuner works fine.

So I stopped emphatic. Still loses. Backed out to hijack 399 which i had before. Still loses. Backed out to 3 alpha 7 from 3 alpha 8. Still loses.

Doesn't matter which file I'm playing. The player application continues to run. The clock continues to update. The UI is responsive, it's just as if the audio device has blocked forever.

But...
if I use madplay on an mp3 which lsof shows the player had open at the time of lossage, it plays on through.

I'm missing something here...

You might want to grab that file, as it exists on the player, and sent it off for evaluation...

Which one? The player hangs after 2 seconds on *any* track.

Oh, but it gets better. I had the player binary from the 20040630 packages on /programs0 on my player. i ran it from there. it works. 3a7 hangs. 3a8 hangs. wtf?

Oh. And something else which confuses me.

While a "broken" player is running, and in "play" mode, I can run madplay and it will play... I wonder if /dev/dsp isn't single-writer, or if something else weird is going on.

Okay... I am not sure where to go at the moment... Have you tried a full reload with the .upgrade files?

Go into the Hijack menu, activate Show Flash Savearea, and tell me what you see in location 0x1c.

Also, connect the serial cable, and you should see the player in a crash loop of sorts, right? AFTER gathering the info for me (above), you can "fix" it by having the player reiniialize all of its saved settings. Just hit control^C, and then start the player with player -i

I better not see the player in a crash loop of sorts; When i kill -2 (pid of player) and then restart it from the bash prompt from telnetting in it runs like normal, and I see the "notify" output before it "hangs"

But... I have a guess, which I'm about to try, before I try looking at 0x1c, because I can do it from here instead of getting up. One other thing changed: I let the emphatic installer play with config.ini. I forgot about that.

I used mlord's upgrader. I don't intend to do anything more severe than that.

It left a pre-modification copy. I moved it back, and restored the 3 alpha 7 player. And it works. So I guess next I'll figure out wtf...
