Here is some cool software that my roommate found. It is called Media Portal and it is very similar to the software on the Media Center PCs. Has anyone else tried it yet? http://mediaportal.sourceforge.net/

Looks nice, but I wonder if they aim for you to display it on a TV or not. So far I haven't found a good solution for displaying at low resolutions. myHTPC had too many problems and a lot of weird behavior, but it's been the best I've seen so far.

Woah! I hadn't seen that there is no longer any such thing as myHTPC. It appears they've gone corporate, and now sell their product, now named Meedio. They've even got freakin' T-shirts! Wow, that's a difference from the last time I went to the myHTPC website.

There goes some nice free software. I'll give yours a try if I ever have my PC hooked up to my TV again.

Mediaportal is a pc port of the Xbox media center program.

I thought myHTPC was the best too but media portal is better.

Based on your recommendation I tried MediaPortal. Interface looks slick, but it's a freakin' pig. It eats up nearly half of my 2GHz Athlon even when it's not doing anything. Playing a movie, forget it. I'll stick with myHTPC or Meedio if they've added enough features to make it worth buying.

I tried the meedio one out and it was pretty good (I didn't even know myHTPC was bought out) I wouldn't pay 90 dollars for it though. I wish someone would make one that lets you create a playlist on the fly easily.

I modded my semi dead xbox and have been playing with XBMC.

is anyone on here testing the Media Portal? I am trying to get them to put insert on it and thought maybe i could get some other people from the forum to suggest it to them to (that way they are more likely to do it.) Also, I am trying to get them to do it where you can play all your music without having to save it as a new playlist every single time.....

That's because they weren't. The process of moving from myHTPC to Meedio has been very well documented on in the myHTPC forums for months.

Pablo took the program he created (myHTPC) and built it into an even beter product. Then (along with a number of other people) he started selling it.

myHTPC is not gone, it just won't be developed further. You can download it from the Meedio site for free. And Meedio is worth the money, IMHO. If nothing else, selling Medio will allow Pablo to dedicate himself to it full time. Which means more updates! Woo!

Is there a good place where we can see the difference between MyHTPC and Meedio? I stopped using MyHTPC simply because it was clunky even with the use of a remote (which it didn't do that great a job of interfacing with). I'd love to see what they ended up fixing with the final MyHTPC release, then what they added to make it Meedio.

There wasn't actually a final release of myHTPC; Pablo turned his attention to Meedio before that came to pass.

You can actually download a 15-day free trial of Meedio at their site. It's honestly a big improvement.

I was mostly just curious. I no longer have a need for media center software, as I recently bought a video/music/photo streamer which, IMO, does a better for the purpose.
