Yeah, they're going back into production. I just ordered the tool needed to cutout the tabs. That should be here Friday at the earliest. If that happens, the sleds should be ready to go out the following week.
Ordering should open right after I verify they have been made properly.

I'd just like to say that the black sleds are sweet. I love the fact that the lips of the sled don't stand out because they're bare metal any more. There are two issues that people might need to consider, though. First, the inside left and right sides of the sled will get scratched to the point that the black powder coat rubs away. This is still much preferable to the bare metal all over, though. Second, the sled I've got fits my MkII like a glove. Better than the original sled, IMO. But I really have to fiddle to get my MkIIa in there. I imagine it would loosen up if I used the MkIIa more, but I don't.
Still, all in all, a great purchase. Even better if you can just take the harness and plug off of a sled you're not currently using.

I noticed this also on the sled I personally used in my Trooper while the one I used to test didn't have this issue. I just bent the tabs outward a little and that did the trick for me.

The spring tabs that hold the empeg to the horizontal center? I can believe that. I don't want to bend mine out, though, as I fear it would then start fitting the MkII poorly.

Are the prices still the same for the sleds and wiring?

I don't think I will have any connectors this time around, but I have a friend that expressed interest in making harnesses. The price for the sled will likely be the same.

I did this on my _stock_ sled for a Mk2a. The sled has a little 'give' in it such that it can bend out of square slightly if its mounting hole is a tight fit - in my case it's tighter on the sides rather than at the top. Bear in mind also that the locking tabs effectively push in on the sled...The amount that the sled bends is barely noticeable, but it can be enough to affect the empeg's fit.

I have to say, the black sled is must. Your dash will look so much neater when the empeg is out.

How big is the production run? I'm interested in about 5 sleds for myself and some buddies.

Here's a shot of the sled in my WRX (see attached). You can see the small nicks on the left and right side caused by the drive tray screws on the side of the empeg. They are barely noticeable, and the overall look of the black sled is a million times better than the straight metal ones.

That is definitely something I will have to get. My original is spray painted with black appliance paint, but I have a couple nicks on the front of the bent edges. So it looks really black, then I see spots of silver peeking out. Yup I'll need a powder coated sled.

Just the photo. The fascia fits VERY snuggly in there. The fascia doesn't sit in front of the bezel, it's surrounded by it for a more flush look.

Neater than this?
Just kidding. Actually, my metal sled shows with the empeg IN, so I might try a black one. Hm, that would look nice.

No, as usual there are stupid things that pop up that prevent these things from being produced in a timely manner. As soon as we get some circuit board back (because some component blew up), the sleds will be run.

They're punched and are in the process of being bent. Paint next, then shipping.
