Did anyone ever make smoke buttons? I have one of the earliest sets of Blue buttons and would love to trade for a set of Smoke if anyone has them and is interested.

Yes, Brian did smoke buttons - it's still visible as a choice in the drop-down boxes on his site (linked above). I've got a set, but it's not for trade or sale - sorry...

Yes, Brian did smoke buttons
Brings to mind the "Larry the Cable Guy" bit where he said, "I tried smokin' mushrooms once, but I couldn't keep the pizza lit."

That would explain the extreme risk and horror that the plastic casters and cutters on the board (or contracted) seem to have faced. It is almost like becoming a drummer for Spinal Tap...

I'll be waiting! In the mean time... I'll offer up a black robricc sled instead of my blue buttons, in trade for some smokers!

You know what, before you find a loving new home for those smoke buttons, could you snap a few photos of them? I just got the color matched chips for my five colors today and smoke is the wildcard. The chips match Filener's smoke, but Darkstorms always seemed more green, yet in Paul's picture, it looks white.
[Edit:] Oh wait, wait, wait; I read the topic backwards. Sorry, lysdexia got me again.

We had one good set of smoke produced. We sold them quite a whle ago though. The rest were rejects sent back to the caster who subsequently disappeared taking the rejects and our money with him.

So, I guess that would mean I’ve got the only set of smoke buttons? Pictures can be found here.

I'll bet you do, and lovely pictures of those buttons too. That reminds me, I should add you to my list of people to thank for helping with the button project. I couldn't possibly count the number of times I've referenced your pictures for any number of reasons.

Agree. I'm still not wild about the button lighting blinking when you hit a button, but smoke buttons would tempt me to go through with the lit buttons.

i love my smoke buttons. i did have to wedge a small piece of plastic in the hole on the knob to make it shallow enough to allow a knob press to click. if anything ever gets going, i will buy more buttons and another light kit for my other empeg.

Note to self: Self, make sure you swap smoke buttons out with stock buttons before having any more memory upgrades done... I am still considering this trade. I have two players with smoke / smoke combinations. One set has one button that is slightly damaged (deceleration trauma, a non visible chip near the collar of the button), but is fully functional as long as it is aligned properly on the switch. The problem for Loren is that it really is such a great combination... A very difficult decision...

l0ser: The project to recreate the buttons is well underway. Keep an eye on the General forum because I'll start a new thread to track the progress once everything is finalized and I send in my first payment (sort of the "no turning back" point).
Or maybe I should start it now. On Friday I got the color chips of the five colors they custom mixed for me. Red, blue, green, amber, and yes, smoke. I haven't gone over them in detail and tested them against the empeg lights, but they look pretty darn good. And they have a texture rougher than the original buttons which seems to diffuse light very well. I'll post pictures when I get a chance.
dbrashear: I used to hate the button flashing too, but using my prototype amber set, I hardly notice it. If I'm driving, I'm not looking at the empeg long enough to see them flash; only long enough to get my finger on the buttons, which is MUCH faster than fumbling in the dark for opaque buttons. And even if I'm at a traffic light, I can't see them flash because my hand is in the way.
Middle of December, that's the earliest I'll have the buttons ready to ship. Keep your fingers crossed and keep an eye on the (to be created) progress thread in General.

Firefox, are you planing to make buttons in the same color as that of the original epeg fascia (gray, I mean)? BTW, the unlit smoke buttons of the pictures above are just perfect, at this regard! And they looked great also when lit. Congratulations Oliver

taym, the buttons will be produced in the colors of the original replacement lenses: red, blue, green, and amber. Also, buttons will be produced in smoke, clear, and solid black (not translucent). The red, amber, green, and smoke are being matched to lenses currently offered by Filener, while the blue is the deep blue of the original replacement lens. Clear and black are just for fun!
But, I'm not sure what you mean by "the original empeg fascia". The only thing I can think of is the stock MKIIa lens in the blue/purple color. I don't plan to create buttons in that color. Or do you mean the original MKI lens (which is its fascia)? In that case, I don't know what it looks like and it won't matter much because the buttons I'm creating won't fit an MKI (easily). Let me know though, now I'm curious.
Darn smoke, though. My samples still suffer the problem shown in Olivers: the buttons are grey but the screen is a greenish grey. It's always bugged me, but I'll save this topic until I post the pictures of my samples later this week.

Forefox, I meant button in the same gray color of the fascia of MKII/IIa, i.e. the plastic part "around" the lens and the buttons. Or, if you want, the plastic part that the screws go through. However, great job! I'll post my comments in the other thread in the General section. I really like those pictures

You mean the nearly jet black fascia? Hm, I never thought of it as gray. Anyway, I am planning a limited production of jet black buttons to match the fascia. They won't let any light pass through, but holes could be drilled to light them. Or, they could be a base for experimentation; silver coating, chroming, gold plating?!? And I have a silly name for them too, but I'll release that when (and if) they ever are created.
