Well all. I received my Empeg about a month ago and haven't had time to get it installed. I finally got it done this week and thought I would share the photos.

The system utilizes and Alpine CVA-1000 and Alpine changer, 2 kicker Amps, Kicker Subs, and Boston Acoustic for Mid and Tweet. We installed the Empeg through the input on the changer itself so I could use the CVA to control the volume and have a digital input. To run the Empeg I just turn it on while I'm using the CD changer and it takes over.

This picture shows my double DIN opening with the CVA on top and a blank face plate to cover the hole when the Empeg isn't in..

Wow, impressive stuff. Does that screen just do command/control, or does it play videos, too?

It can accept input from any video source available (DVD, VHS, Navigation, etc). It is for this reason I have been diligently searching the BBS to see if there is any way to output video from the Empeg. Then I would be able to display the empeg info on the video monitor. The visuals would be cool. Hopefully there will be a way soon.

In order for the Empeg visuals to look cool on that monitor, they would have to be re-programmed to work at a higher resolution. Some of the visuals could theoretically run at higher resolutions and color depths, but you'd need some complex and expensive video circuitry added to the Empeg, and a lot of new code to back it up.

The best thing you could hope for right now is to create some kind of add-on to the Empeg that took data via ethernet or serial, and then turn THAT into video signals. Others have discussed doing this, but it's not inexpensive and not trivial to implement.

Although it is kind of sad having a plain-old CD changer's display showing up the Empeg like that.

Thanks for the info. I have been reading about various ways of doing this as mentioned on the board.

As for the CD Changer display, I keep the monitor closed most all the time and just control it by remote. This way the empeg stands out.

A colleague of mine here at work has this self same display, hooked up (in the car) to:

Multi region DVD Player
TV Tuner
10 CD Changer
Satellite Navigation System (DVD Based - but a different DVD player, so that he doesn't need to change DVD's on the road)
1000W Sub
4x 4x100W Amps
God knows how many speakers

I'm still trying to convince him to get an empeg, but he thought it would look a little 'odd' with the screen as well.

I'll show him the pics and see what he says!

Oh, I like the install, looks excellent, congrats!

Cheers,

Paul.

I'm not sure, but does the screen unit have a serial in, or somesuch? I know that my colleagues' supports CD-text and the such, so perhaps you can get the info from the empeg (using timecodes=1 in the config.ini) and output via the normal input?

Just an idea.

Paul.
