I’m looking to hookup with an online music service to get a few singles that I do not have.

Which one would you recommend?

My preferences are high quality music (playable on my Empeg with v2 software) and a huge library of music a 30 something rocker would like.

thanks

iTunes + little app I wrote + hymn + dbPowerAmp Converter = right click on m4p file and select "convert to mp3". It's quite nice.

www.warprecords.com has LAME encoded music... great quality, but only stuff on their label.

There's All of mp3, but it's of questionable legality in the US (and probably everywhere besides Russia). Don't know where you are.

Would you be willing to share the little app I wrote?

ITunes seems to be the big name however I’m worried about how much quality I’ll lose all these conversions.

Very tempting but it makes me nervous for several reasons.

Well, this passage from the last paragraph of the Wikipedia entry for AllOfMP3 is all I need:

"The legal status of ALLOFMP3 has been discussed extensively at FADMINE, which comes to the conclusion that the site is indeed legal in the U.S. and Russia. Foremost proof is that the RIAA has targeted companies who resell songs bought from ALLOFMP3, but ignore and condone ALLOFMP3."

If you follow that link, it's got some convincing and well-researched (though admittedly not 100% conclusive) arguments that AllOfMP3 isn't just an illegal site the RIAA isn't going after, it's a legal service. Now, obviously, you'd think RIAA would be considering ways to change their arrangement with Russia to close this loophole, but as long as that loophole exists, I'm happy to use it to my advantage.

Ebay. Amazon Marketplace. http://www.bleep.com, once they start doing Flac (and if your taste is compatible with their selection of labels). Any content that is either encrypted or lossy is not IMO worth paying money for.

It was written on a whim for my own consumption only....it's a quick little bit of code, but I'll post it and include the source (Delphi 5) if you wish to noodle with it. Currently it expects hymn to be installed at C:\Program Files\Hymn. You also have to manually add option to your context menu through tools->folder options->file types.

This is released under the "Do whatever you want with it license" I'll post back to this thread at some point with a slightly more polished version.

For now:
convert.zip

you will also need:
dBPowerAmp Music Converter
dBPowerAmp AAC and MP4 codec
