It's official, Valve's "Surprise" for this week is the release of Half Life 2: Deathmatch.

There's even a piece of concept art on their web site, sitting in a directory and waiting to get linked off of the home page. One of the Valve employees posted the link to it on the Steam forums.

Sweet. Can't wait to deathmatch with that gravity gun.

Now the only question is... Do we get it tonight or not?

Pelting people across the country with flying toilets = sweetness

It's almost enough to make me go out and get myself a copy of HL2 and a bottle of dramamine

Couldn't agree more. My only worry is that it'll be like the BFG-9000, playbalanced by being very rare/hard to reach, and limited in ammunition. Well, we shall see what they come up with.

ME!

I wonder if they're going to ever put in any co-op levels.

Better yet, how about this quote from the Blue's News forums:

Gaming rig... 1,500 dollars.
Half-Life 2... 50 dollars.
Broadband internet connection... 40 dollars.

Killing someone with a toilet to the head...
Priceless.

I appologize for this question, but I'm rushing to find an answer for a friend of mine.

Is a 256MB 9800 Pro good enough for HL2? What resolutions would he be able to get on something like that? It would be going into a system with a 2100+ and, I believe, 512MB of RAM.

Thanks, and sorry for such a lame thread hijack.

*edit*
And I know we talked about this in the Doom 3 thread, but I heard that the system load of HL2 is slightly different...

I'm running it great on a XP2100 with an ATI 9600 XT 128MB, and 1GB RAM and play at 1024x768. You won't have a problem. More RAM should help your loading times, but you should get good picture. It looks like Deathmatch is available. If anyone is playing look me up, Waterman in the friends network.

Sadly it wasn't the suprise I was hoping for, but then again I really didn't expect it. My quote from the hype last week in IRC about the suprise:

"Could it be a public appology for steam and its dismantlement?"

For the record, we are now over two weeks since my trouble ticket was logged with Valve and no response. Yeah, getting rid of the publisher and their support staff rocks...

Hopefully it will be better than Counter Strike:Source. I hate CS.

EDIT:
It's not. It's fun for about 5 minutes, but I've never enjoyed an everyone-for-himself fragfest, even if you do get to pelt each other with toilets.

I'm running it on a system with a 128MB 9800 Pro (AIW) and it looks great. The rest of my specs are better though, which might make up the difference (3000+ and 2GB).

I've had very little stutter or other problems with this setup.

I'm around. Trying to sign into the Friends network, but it's being slow. I'm guy-in-corner, if you see me appear.
