Hi all, I'm running V2.0 of Emplode and the RioCar Software on a Mk2 and everytime I try and add new files it bombs. Not much to go on but I have about 4GB of music on there and about 9GB Free. No matter what I try to upload emplode bombs. When emplode does bomb the empeg powers down. Anyone got any pointers? Thanks, Bill

Bomb how? Crash? Stop responding? Does it produce any error messages? How does the empeg "power down"? Blinking LED? Was it saying "synchronizing" before then?

Check to make sure it's not just this problem.

Basically Emplode comes up with the nice windows debug, this program caused an error, do you want to send the info to MS. And the empeg says syncronizing before it happens, then when it does, it powers down completely (no blue led)
And I'm accessing the EMPEG over Ethernet and have the same problem on xp and 2k so I suspect its a problem with the empeg.

Please post a boot log. The only times I have had emplode crash like that is if the music partitions are not mounted on the player (possibly due to damage or fsck problems) but the root partition mounted successfully.

Hm... At quick glance, that looks fine. Does the player work normally with any existing music? You mentioned that you are going over ethernet. Can you...
a) try doing a hyperterminal capture of the console while the sync is happening to see if there are any error messages?
b) try doing a sync with USB to eliminate ethernet as an issue?
c) diable any and all third party software that may have an open file on the player - making it so emplode cannot dismount the filesystems.
d) do a manual disk check to eliminate that as the source of any problem?
Thanks.

Yes it does...

Hmm just tried and it worked fine.... it's a different cable though, so I'm wondering if the previous one was faulty.

Ok, well USB started off working.... then bombed...emplode crashed as before...this time the empeg powerd down to flashing led, but would not turn on when button pressed... I'm guessing that because it went into bash rather than the player.

I find this particular line very curious... server_protocol_handler.cpp:1386:Timeout during synchronise, restarting player [21] player: old system call.
It seems almost as if you had a mismatch between the emplode version and the player version. The boot of the player looks like 2.0 though. Please double check the driver installation for (possibly even reinstall) the USB driver set, per Tony's message above. It looks like it is timing out on a protocol message... Another thought, after the fsck, is to manually allow the databases to rebuild on the player first. This should not matter, but it would not hurt anything. Lastly, just for kicks, enable sync via the serial port and try to sync that way. Obviously you do not want to send any files up, but you might be able to just "touch" a playlist or something and force the sync. It would be a good test to eliminate the protocol and player versions vs. ethernet or USB issues.

Nope. What that line means is that emplode crashed. The player got fed up waiting for it, and rebooted. The 'player: old system call' is a warning message from the kernel -- it's using a deprecated syscall to do something (probably the reboot).
