(ok - the other one was getting out of hand..) I'm not sure I like any words on the empeg, but if there had to be words, I kinda like the compressed empeg digital audio, or how about "compressed empeg audiobase" - those two would probably be my favorite, if I had to choose.. -mark

Well, to throw in WHY I like "audiobase":
There's a system in existence called Tunebase by Escient -- which is a computer control system for high-end home audio gear. It's principle use is to tie all things related to home audio gear into one seamless graphical (remote console) interface which presents radio, DVD, and CDs (from multi-disk changers) as graphical selections to the user. Effectively it's a jukebox control system for multiple media types -- tailored to the user's preferences of look/feel.
I've seen it in use on two systems whose installed price totaled more than US85k, each. Very nice.
Audiobase has the same kind of feel to me; interface control of multiple files supported in multiple audio formats.
Or maybe I'm smoking crack...

I have a suggestion (like who doesn't). If they have the empeg logo in there, they should probably have all the words lower-cased. It would just look better that way.

Or how about my favorite.... "mark2 >empeglogo< audiobase computer"
It isn't just a music box, y'know. Let's make the onlookers even more jealous. Or maybe the made-up word "audiobase" implies computer in and of itself. Naahhh. But give credit where credit's due: it was muzza who first came up with the word audiobase on this bbs. Good job, muzza!.

I'm not that keen on Audiobase ... too similar to 'Audioline'. Remember their car stereos?
Here's a wild suggestion ... how about just leaving it with the empeg logo and no text? Keep it simple, otherwise we're going to end up with

And now for my acceptance speech... Unfortunately, as much as I hate to admit it, I wasn't the inventor of the much herraled term. And, I do honestly forget who that was, much cred to you tho. you know who you are I still do like & prefer >empeg logo< car audio base Thankyou for your note tanstaafl ____________________________Murray

I would prefer it to have nothing at all, no markings and labels what so ever. None! Each high tech buzzword you stick on there improves the chances of the unit being stolen by 92%. Perhaps it would be best to label it Kmart Generic 8 Track Player on a removable vinyl sticker. That way a thief will go what the heck, it's not a CD player obviously, and nobody wants an 8 track player, next...!

Muzza --
I stand corrected. My apologies to Jonski who was the first to use the word audiobase, a full day earlier. In any case, it's a great word!
And to repeat tfabris' note: empeg should look into trademarking this word.

Congratulations you're our next contestant on Do You Want To Own An Empeg. You have already won the fantastic prize of the fleas of a thousand rabid camels infesting the armpits of all your enemies!!

It's already trademarked, although in a slightly different area of the digital audio market. Check out www.audiobase.com__ Unit serial number 47 (was 330 in the queue)...

Well, my mind keeps whirring on this even though I said I'd be happy with whatever empeg decides. So, today I decided to throw brute force at the problem in the hope of spawning some fresh ideas:
I bought lunch for 10 people from my company's marketing team and stipulated that at least 1/2 hour of the lunch must be spent on a topic of my choosing. All of the people I invited have seen and expressed interest in my Empeg Car Player, have read the literature Rob was kind enough to provide, and have had a high degree of input in our company's branding efforts (living.com -- ranked 1-3 among e-tailers in our industry, depending on which critics you ask). Most are NOT highly technical people.
I started by explaining that the "jukebox" concept is a major selling point (i.e. the unit is a music archive). I explained that "jukebox" is disliked by the vocal beta owners here because it seems archaic -- given the high-tech nature of the prodct (all agreed). I explained that things like "digital audio" are tired/worn out in the audio world (discussion on this one, but no major disagreement). I explained that this elegant, cutting-edge product needs some simple, elegant, cutting-edge description to encompass/define it as concisely as possible (all agreed). I then pulled out my lifebook and showed the group the high-res rendering of th Mark2 and noted the words on the face of the unit and asked how we could encapsulate the unit's look/feel/function in one simple word. (EVERY ONE OF THEM liked the new design, by the way...)
Here are the top 3 selections that the team came up with, in order of preference:
empeg audiobank (as in databank for audio) empeg audiovault (ditto) empeg sonicache (a "blend"; sonic+cache)
Note: "empeg" is assumed to be the empeg logo and was not considered a "word" for the purposes of discussion -- because it was assumed that the empeg logo will be present regardless of the absence/presence of other text

Ha, I'm impressed with the initiative you took. I also agree with what you came up with. I actually really like the audiobank one.
Still wish it didn't have to be so close to the screen...

These are cool. I prefer AudioVault. Emphasizes the fact that it's nearly impossible to get a file back out of the unit once you've put it in there. Tony FabrisEmpeg #144

Of course, it doesn't really matter. If I just can't stand it on there when I finally get the thing, I'm just going to scratch it off anyway.

Naaahhh, don't just scratch it off.
This is a high-tech piece of sophisticated computer/audio equipment, requiring a comparably high-tech solution.
I'd recommend a strip of black electrical tape, myself...

The name has long been decided! In their April 4 issue (page 88), PC Magazine announced the new Empeg as the Mark2, and as a Hard disk car CD changer They wrote By May, Empeg.com, a U.K.-based firm, will ship its Mark2 player, which fits in a standard dashboard. It contains two 2.5-inch notebook hard disks and receives radio broadcasts. It will cost around $1,000 to $2,000.Henno # 00120

Interesting, but isn't that a little wordy? Regardless, I suppose you guys at empeg will be having people calling this thing the Mark 2 unit whether it's official or not.
