I just got back from a trip to rural BC, Canada. Before I left I found portable Firefox and portable Thunderbird. These are self-contained applications & launchers optimized for use from a flash device (currently Windows only).

I put mine on the CF card I use for photos along with Irfanview (which now will display camera RAW files). I also carry a USB 2 reader, but one could easily put these on their Carbon or other convenient flash device. The applications worked great at the internet cafes - all the settings, none of the hassle, which is a plus when it's a twoonie (sp?) for 15 minutes. I thought they were too cool to keep to myself.
