Just to get it out of the way...what OS are you running? If Windows XP, have you installed the special Windows XP USB driver?

Have you tried syncing over serial or ethernet?

I think (not sure) that the "Usb non standard request" message mvigneau is talking about, isn't related to synch attempts with emplode.

This bootlog was gathered over an RS-232 serial link I believe. I'd bet that there wasn't even a USB cable connected at the time. If that's the case I'd start to worry about hardware trouble on the player itself.

If there WAS a usb cable connected at the time, then Meatballman, you could be right mvigneau merely needs to read and obey these instructions.

It's something wrong with the USB chip.

He's got:

Quote:
empeg usb initialised, PDIUSBD12 id ffff

when it should be:

Quote:
empeg usb initialised, PDIUSBD12 id 1012

That just means that *something* on the I/O bus is bad. It might be the USB chip, it might be the IDE header, it might be the ls245 buffers, it might be the ethernet chip, or it might be the CS42xx chip.

Cheers

In any of these cases, it is likely that you should transplant your hard drive tray to a spare empeg (if available) and send this one in for diagnosis and repair.

Yeah...that's what I figured.

The problem is that there isn't even a USB Cable connected and yes, I am pulling that information from the RS232 port.

The hard drive is making noises, so I am going to try and back it up. I think the hard drive is why it isn't working. The USB might go back to when the CS42xx chip died back in March of Last Year (I think I was the first one) and we resoldered a new chip on there thanks to mlord.

Since I don't use the USB connection, if I can get it to work after diagnosing the hard drive, then I can deal with the USB:Non-Standard request.

Ah yes. I just glanced at it and saw USB and fired back. I should know better than to post when I'm full of NyQuil.

You've either:

- lost a couple of databus buffer drivers which are are affecting the return ID of the USB chip and preventing the driver from initialising the chip or reading responses
- you have a dead/dying USB chip.

I would go for the second one as the previous line in the log shows that the CS4231A (which is on the same databus lines) is initialising properly - hence, it looks like the USB chip.

Have you recently unplugged/replugged either the display cable or the IDE cable, and made a mistake putting them back on?

No. It was working fine and then one-day just stopped.

What chip is the USB chip? I might have some left from the time when the cs42xx chip died which turned out to be the ethernet chip.

Oh, that player!

Actually, it was a dead ethernet chip that was the culprit originally on yours.

I wonder if perhaps one of the track patches might have come loose since then? Can you have your nice solder-station pal take a close look under high magnification?

Cheers

That's what I was thinking. She should be able to find out if it was.

Does anybody know what chip the USB is? (Make/Model).?

It's a Philips: I forget the number but it is located next to the display header on the main board. It's NOT the DSP (SAA7705), but a smaller TSSOP package with about 28 pins.

Philips PDIUSB12, says the kernel sources.

Figured I'd update everyone about this player. It now belongs to us. I replaced the IDE cable and rerouted the jumper wires installed. Everything works fine now!
