Sorry to hear that!

A drive upgrade is pretty simple.

http://www.riocar.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Drive_Upgrade&file=index

I used to use the IBM Travelstar drives but Hitachi (?) bought their 2.5" drive business so now I use Hitachi Travelstar drives. You can get good deals here: www.pricewatch.com Avoid Toshiba drives.

Finally, I found the Famous Hitachi Travelstar and ordered one ....

Took the 8 Mo Buffer as the original had only 2 Mo.

Hope it will be quickly in my hands.

Don't know what to do ....

Well, have you been through the whole FAQ relating to diagnosing hard drive problems? The standard problem is usually a bad cable - you don't mention if you have done any of this.

I crimped the cable but no success.
I think this is a very bad cable ,

I tried to take a look on Eutronix but site is not available.

so now my question is where to buy another ?

ps : Mark , I will grab the boot log ... and put it on the Forum

Is this with the new hard drive? It looks like it was not built - it cannot find the root partition and is reading a bad partition table. Either the cable is bad, off by one pin, or the drive was new and not built. I would say, yes, reapply the disk builder (assuming this is a new drive with no data on it you want to save) and then reload the .upgrade file.

Yes it is a new hard drive, but I cannot apply the disk builder .... it does not find the unit ...

But it's possible i do it in a wrong way.

I'm under Linux and type this :

./upgclient /mnt/david/Empeg/car2-builder-20011022.upgrade

As my empeg unit is connected to ttys0.

Here is the message I have when trying to apply Disk Builder :

empegupgrade: Using upgrade file 'car2-builder-20011022.upgrade' to device '/dev/ttyS0' (115200 baud)

Leave the empeg powered off until it gets to this stage, and then plug in the power...

Pretty certain you don't plug it in until the message asks you to do so. Can't remember off the top of my head, but I seem to recall just following some instruction like that.

Looks like it. Need to apply the Disk Builder. But that requires getting a working serial connection to the boot firmware, always a tricky operation on some PCs, it seems.

Cheers

Yeah, but the downloader programs (for installing the upgrader kernel etc..) tend to be fussier than one would expect..

Good luck!
