Do you find something wrong with this:

An 8-year old Californian pelters an 11-year old with water baloons, she returns with a stone (cutting the boy's forehead slightly). Police intervenes with three patrol cars and a helicopter, but the girl "escapes jail time on an assault with a deadly weapon charge" when lawyers reached a deal that only adds six months of "informal probation" to "five days in juvenile hall and a month under house arrest"...

Well, when I was a kid, this would result in a bit of tongue-lashing and, perhaps, a week without ice-cream or something, provided, of course, that parents of any party did find out about the incident in the first place.

Source.

Good thing it didn't happen in Texas... She'd be on death row!

A shame that the police and courts must be applied where parenting is lacking.
If only a licence to breed were required! Seems they give the right to just about anybody these days.

Yes, for some reason my friends and I used to think that pelting each other with rocks was a good idea . . . I'm glad the police never found out about that- imagine my life of crime that they would have prevented.

I don't see a lack of parenting here. Kids do little stupid stuff like this all the time. The parents find out about it usually, and the kids get scolded.

I'm a bit confused, I'm wondering how this got escalated to that level. Did someone call the cops? What did they say over the phone that had three cars and a helicopter at the scene? I'm missing something here...

This sounds slightly less of an over reaction when you realise that the "stone" weighed 2 pound. I wonder how much damage a properly aimed rock of that weight to the head could do ?

Fezzick (Andre the Giant) from the The Princess Bride somehow comes to mind.

I wonder if the police should start arresting baseball pitchers that try to hit batters. Same thing - assault with a deadly weapon. Certainly more deadly than a rock thrown by a child...

I am starting to wonder if we are all just doomed...

You keep using that word. I do not think it means, what you think it means.

You keep using that comma. I do not think it goes where you think it goes.

Ah, that was refreshing to read . . . it's been far too long since I've seen anyone get Bitted- I've been missing it.

What I get for grabbing the quote from a quote page without proofing. Mea culpa.
