You mean a Wintel laptop?
I didn't think they were going to do this. Is this a hack, or an official thing? Link to announcements or such?

I would have thought that apple are switching to intel is old news, but the fact that people have OSX running on PC's is quite new to me! Is that just a standard PC laptop Andy? If it is, I wanna play too Cheers Cris.

I know all about Apple's plans for moving to Intel, in fact if you look up the thread you'll see I posted in it. All I'm saying this is the first time I've seen it in action. I've already got the ISO, just looking for a suitable machine to try it on.

It's running on a particularly bog-standard Acer laptop. Apparently if your CPU doesn't support SSE3 you need to patch the install otherwise things get decidedly wobbly (apparently).

This is a hack, there's some piece of hardware missing in a standard PC which the hack works around at install time, or something like that.

I have a friend who has been running x86OSX for the past 3 months on an Dual Athlon MP 2800+ . He is member of the Apple Developers Network and is always running the latest beta.
He said that the video is slow and not all of the application work. But he seems to think that Apple will be releasing x86 Mini's and x86 Laptops in January.

Well, the Intel Pentium-M chips don't have SSE3 (per your photo).

He probably patched the install, then, didn't he?

Probably explains why he mentioned the patch

I'll allow this topic to stay for now, but please refrain from linking to illegal content. This includes operating systems not yet released, patches for said operating system, etc...
Also, please keep the pictures to a minimum. Apple is also going after sites with videos, and it's only a matter of time I'm sure before they also go after much more. With as heavially indexed that this BBS is, a quick Google search can find this.
Officially, Apple has stated that Mac OS X will continue to run supported only on Apple hardware.

Ditto. My friend put OSX on his Sony (Centrino based) laptop. He had to do the SSE2 patch. It runs quite well except for the graphics run in a generic VESA mode. He loves it and it's probably made him an Apple convert. His comment was that this hacked, patched and unreleased version of OS X runs better then the released Windows. I wouldn't say that myself until someone makes real video drivers and laptop can be put to sleep. As a REAL Mac user I have higher expectations then him.
The process of setting up a dual boot Windows/OS X system is pretty easy now if you know where to get the illegal files from.

Does rosetta work with the SSE2 patch?

Yes. My friend has been using PPC native apps.
Only two things don't work on my friend's laptop:
1. Intel wireless. Only Broadcom chipsets work with the built in drivers. My friend bought a cheap Belkin USB wifi adapter and it works.
2. OpenGL accelleration. Anything using OpenGL crashes. The lack of real video drivers for ATI and NVidia is the biggest stumbling block to getting OS X running well.
