Standby light doing funny things.

So, I come back from lunch and look at the Empeg. The standby light is pulsing very strangely.
It's still doing its fade in and out, but very jerkily then, every third pulse or so, it goes completely doo-lally - it starts fading out, then pings back to full beam, starts fading out, pings back, fades out jerkily then flashes on/off quickly, then goes back to normal (jerky still).
Very very strange.
I'm now about to pull the power and see if that sorts it.
No. Still doing it.
Hmmm. Very strange.
Nick.

Yes. I've done everything short of putting it on the floor and jumping on it and it's still doing it.

That would probably stop the LED flashing.

Jwickis also posted this problem a little while back.
He said he thought it was the sensor switch that detects whether the unit is getting its power from the AC adaptor or the car docking sled. I don't know if there was ever a definitive "yes that is the problem for sure" post, but check out this FAQ entry and see if you are having these symptoms. ___________ Tony Fabris

The DC power plug sensor really shouldn't be affecting the front panel LED. Does the flickering still happen when the unit is in standby and you ctrl-C the player (dropping it into a shell on the developer image).

No.
Hmmm.
Now here's something interesting - it only seems to flicker weirdly when the selected visual is "Toilet floor". Change to any other (well, OK, I've not been through them all) and it goes back to fading in and out normally.

I've just tested mine and it does the exact same thing. Ive also noticed that the soundflag and rorscach (sp?) visual will just fill in the whole screen almost solid and leave it that way-I don't think its supposed to work like that.

When I cntrl-c the player, the visual locks up and stays on the screen. I can still access the bash prompt though.

Erm, the light is flickering (or doing anything at all, for that matter) when the display is ON?!

No, when the visual is off; the problem occurs when the visual is running and the empeg is set in standby mode. I noticed in displayserver that the visual is still running while the empeg is in standby mode.

No, the light only turns on and off when the player is in standby.

Yes, it just powers the screen down. Needs fixing at some point, really...
This may well affect the standby light; there is a mode you can put it into where the LCD databus will directly control the light, allowing you to do custom patterns in-kernel. It shouldn't be getting into this mode, but it could be the display not being disabled correctly.

Interesting!
So I wonder what other visual will induce this? I would think it'd be all the visuals that keep moving around even when there's no music.
Yup... Just checked. Fantasy Fishnets does it, too. So does BorgBeat. Heh, this is kind of cool. ___________ Tony Fabris

I thought it might be the power switcher on mine because at the time I was getting only the 2 channel EQ in my car. Apparantly when I brought it back in to the house the visual was a different one and evrything seemed fine w/the standby LED. Well I'm happy now that my power sensor isn't getting faulty.

You could see it the other way, too - selecting a special visual is selecting a special flash-pattern of the standby LED, too. Isn't that funny anyhow? TeeMcBee

The standby LED doesn't act weird, if the playlist has ended and turned off. The LED almost acts as if it might be beating with the music that's not playing anymore.
