Hello all-
My install is nearly complete and I've done some simple in-car testing.
I have two empegs- both running 2.0 player and 439/440 hijack.

Both empegs respond normally in my MLord Dock at home.
In the car, though, one of them allows no control over the volume.

There is a volume ramp- it rapidly gets loud enough to frighten me into shutting off the player.
During one (of the few) attempts, I managed to get the volume 'bar' on screen- it was nailed at 0.0dB and input from the encoder gave me [fixed] on the screen.
My search-fu is not up to par, it seems.
Scanning the FAQ and the forum for 'fixed' 'volume' hasn't yielded joy.
I don't see anything in the Hijack menus that allude to 'locking' or 'fixing' the volume level.
I've never edited the config.ini files for either player (they're both 2nd hand), but I also haven't seen any information referring to volume level fixing there, either.
Would someone be kind enough to enlighten this Empeg padewan?
I don't want fixed volume anywhere- car or home.

The <fixed volume> setting is a standard player setting. I use it on my player, which is connected to the aux-in of my original radio.

There's a setting somewhere in the normal menu, where you can set the volume to 'fixed', but I don't have an Empeg here and I can't remember where it is. I think it is under Sound or Settings somewhere...

Aha!!
So- it's a 'standard option' in the player menus, eh?
I shoulda checked that! DOH!
As with many other options, there must be different 'home' and 'car' settings.
I'll unplug my amp so I can run the player in the car without having to subject my ears/neighbors to the 0.0dB setting while I sort out the problem.

THANKS VERY MUCH!!

Woot!!
Well, that was one of the most enjoyable drives to work that I've had in a long, looong, time!
Thank you, Empeg!

Soon I'll post up something in the install section.

Note that you can use Hijack's force DC function to do this at home. This makes the player software think it's running on DC.

OR

You could have simply paused it as soon as the player started in the car and then adjusted the setting.

Yes, pausing would've worked- I was sort of in a panic as the volume ramped up though, and didn't think that fast.
My solution was to 'hush' the output with the ir remote.

My Empeg makes me smile.
