You might be trying to make it more complicated than it needs to be.
If your empeg and your computer are plugged into the same network, they should JUST WORK in most cases, assuming the network has got a proper DHCP server. You should be able to just run Jemplode and have it search for the empeg and it should find it.
Only if you have trouble with it, should you need to worry about assigning static IP addresses. To do that, you must use regular emplode on Windows, connect with the serial cable, and use the CONFIGURE PLAYER screen.
