I think my power supply block is duff.

The empeg FAQ says that IBM Thinkpad power supplies are ok to use but before I use it, I want to confirm that it's not going to break anything. According to the label on the block, it outputs:

16v
4.5A

Is that going to do the trick?

I've used a thinkpad powersupply before, the only other spec you need to check is that it's center positive to be completely sure.

It's good that you double-checked. Plugging in the wrong power supply tends to let out the expensive blue smoke that powers the player.

The extra voltage and amperage might make the player run hotter (I think, if I understand how these things work, I'm not an expert in that sort of thing), so watch for that.

The amperage rating of the PSU has nothing to do with anything here. It just indicates how big of a load one can connect before frying the power supply -- the empeg is small enough that 1amp or greater is fine.
