Hi All,

Am planning a trip to NZ and Aus in Feb - March. I bought a Nokia 3120 tri band GSM phone for the trip, but haven't bought a SIM card yet.

I want to get one to use in NZ and another for use in Aus so that I have local #s in each place.

Anyone know if it's better to buy that now or should I wait til I hit the local locales?

I know I can order from a place like: http://www.telestial.com/ but is it better to buy it from a store once I'm there?

- Thanx in advance!
- Jon

I've never tried, but I'd bet the local store would be much better idea. I sent my parents off to Sweden with a unlocked phone and they managed to buy a prepaid sim without a problem.

From an Aussie (albeit one who has no experience with pre-pay), I'd say just buy a local pre-pay SIM card once you're here. Outgoing costs aren't cheap but pre-pay is always like that.

You can probably purchase a $30 card for $20 or something to get you started.

BTW: We use 900MHz generally. I think there are some 1800MHz sites around but I've never seen that advertised via the operator name e.g. in Singapore it will come up with something like M1-1800 when using M1's 1800MHz service.
